How to lay a table for eight without matching everything

A table that looks collected is not about owning matching sets. It is about choosing a few things that agree on colour, then letting the rest vary.

Start with the cloth

For eight, a cloth at 180 × 270 cm leaves a drop of about 25 cm each side. Choose the print first, because it sets the palette for everything else.

“Borrow one colour from the cloth and let everything else be quiet.”

Napkins, rings and the one brass note

Napkins in the same print tie the table together; rings in brass add weight without adding colour. Two sets of four rings cover eight places.

Finish with light

A single dinner candle in a citrus scent keeps the table fresh. Light it an hour before guests arrive, then snuff it for the meal.
